JOGA’s Activities

An online game forum was created in 2004 to support IT and content ventures in the metropolitan area as a part of the Industry Cluster Plan by the Kanto Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry, and this forum has worked to solve problems relating to online game businesses and promote the industry. In June 2007, the Japan Online Game Association was established so that members participating in the online game forum could solve problems relating to online game businesses and promote the industry. The following is an outline of the organization’s main activities.

2007 June Japan Online Game Association established.
July Published online game market research report. (Published in July of every following year.)
2008 October Published guidebook on online game industry.
2009 September Online game guidelines released.
2010 April Introduced a security common-base system that combined portable telephones and one-time passwords in order to prevent spoofing crimes through PC online games.
October Director Lee from the Ministry of Culture of the People’s Republic of China and other related government personnel held a discussion on various problems relating to Chinese and Japanese online games.
2011 April Contributed funds to victims and areas afflicted by the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami.
2012 April Released “Proclamation for safe and secure online games.”

Revised and released Proclamation for safe and secure online games.Released Planning, design and operation guidelines for business models in the area of online games.Released Disclosure and operational guidelines in item sales that make use of randomly dropped items.Released Online game security guidelines. (Composed of Guidelines relating to information sharing upon the occurrence of an incident,” Guidelines for dealing with list-type account hacking,” Security solution guidelines such as one-time passwords, etc. and Guidelines for partnering with security vendor related organizations.”)

2013 April Released “Operation guidelines for smartphone game applications.”
2014 May Implemented a public awareness campaign to draw attention to the issue of credit card usage by children for online games together with the Japan Consumer Credit Association and the National Consumer Affairs Center of Japan. September
September JOGA and JETRO (Japan External Trade Organization) jointly held a matching event for domestic and overseas online game companies. (Held every year since)
2015 June Commenced support services for online game startup ventures.
September A nonpartisan parliamentary association for online games was created.
2016 February Integrated and revised guidelines created for each type of device, and released “Proclamation for safe and secure online games,” “Planning, design and operation guidelines for business models in the area of online games” and “Disclosure and operational guidelines in item sales that make use of randomly dropped items.”
